Relevant Experience

Instructional Design
I am familiar with the entire instructional design process, including needs analysis, development of concepts, development of instructional objectives, research, and development of web pages, including text composition and editing. I possess a strong background in site architecture and layout. The curriculum I have designed often integrate disciplines using a common theme. Assessment involves student projects that solve real-life problems and require public presentations.

Secondary Curricula:

Gorillas: An integrative, online unit that investigates the Natural History of Gorillas, Africa, conservation and animal rights, and communication.
Mars: An integrative, thematic, online unit that utilizes much of NASA's material, centered around the theme, "What is the point of continuing to fund the space program?"
Chaos Theory and Fractal Geometry : This unit investigates chaos theory and fractal geometry through mathematical modeling as well as the mathematics of fractals.
Consumer Math: An interdisciplinary unit integrating consumer math principles with language arts.
Nature Area: A curriculum in which students designed a Nature Center for their middle school. Students were required to study plant communities and choose several that would represent those naturally occurring in that region.

Teaching
I have taught computer applications courses, including Introduction to the Internet. I developed an online version of the course. I have eight years experience teaching secondary math and biology. I have piloted numerous programs, including Glenco Math A and Math in Context, both constructivist approaches to mathematics. I have participated in a team teaching situation involving an integrated, thematic instructional approach to curriculum development. Extracurricular activities included participation in the Site Council, the Restructuring Committee, the Math Curriculum Committee, and the Ecology
Club.

Technical Writing
Currently, I am writing text for online curriculum. I have taken technical and biological writing courses. My master's thesis can be viewed at: http://home.inreach.com/kfarrell. I have written weekly newsletters for parents to keep them apprised of math reforms. During college, I wrote articles for the Soil Conservation Service for publication in local newspapers. Instructors in both graduate school and undergraduate classes have requested the use of my papers as examples of exemplary work.

Software and Programming
HTML programming, BASIC programming, HyperStudio, Photoshop, Claris Home Page, PageMill, Claris Works, Word, Excel, and Miscrosoft Office. Familiar with both MacIntosh and Windows platforms.

Office Management
I have managed all aspects of medical and veterinary offices, including full charge bookkeeping, scheduling, inventory, and supervising personnel.
