Course Description : Basic Math, 7th Grade
Kelleen Farrell, Instructor Basic Math is a survey course that introduces students to a variety of topics covered in mathematics while improving their computational skills with whole numbers, integers, fractions, decimals and percents. We will be investigating Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry, Statistics, and Probability. We will not cover each of these topics in depth, but you will have enough of a background to proceed to Algebra 1. You will be required to explain your answers, work in teams as well as individually. Grading and Classroom Policies Homework assignments are given daily and should be completed each night.. A weekly quiz will be given each Friday on the class work and homework for that week. (You may use your homework and notes to help you complete quizzes and tests.) In-class assignments are collected at the time they are completed. Late assignments are not accepted unless you have been absent. Written tests and/or projects will follow the end of each unit. There will be a final at the end of the semester. Your grade will be calculated as follows:
Tutorials will be available before tests. I am also available for tutoring during lunch hours by appointment only. Absences It is important that you attend all classes, but absences do occur. It is your responsibility to check with your partner and/or the class website to obtain notes and to find out what you have missed. There is also a notebook in the classroom with the assignments and notes for each week. Extra handouts are available at the student resource desk. If an absence will be for a prolonged period, please contact me and we can make arrangements for you to get your assignments and work on them from home. Materials: You will need to provide pens, pencils and paper and are required to have these materials with you each day. At various times during the semester you will also need rulers, protractors, felt-tip pens, and glue sticks. Please be sure to bring these daily as well. You will also need a composition book for your assignments and homework. This jorunal will be graded quarterly. Grading will be based upon:
